Someone’s Gotta Step Up to the Dinner Bowl. Plate. Whatever.

And that someone’s gonna be me – Toby.

Lately I’ve noticed that one of my peoples, the one called “Donna,” seems to be neglecting this blog. She says she’s been too busy trying to work on her “fiction” – but truth be told, most times she just sits there cursing at the computer screen. Or sometimes she wastes time at visits some writer’s forum. She says it’s for “research”. Do you believe that? Nah. I didn’t either. I think she’s playing solitaire…

But whatever she’s doing, she’s been leaving all you guys, her faithful readers, hanging – so I’ve decided to put on my big boy collar and take charge.

Why me? Why Toby?

Well, Leah certainly can’t do it. She’s too busy staring out the window, muttering to herself about all of the feral cats she can’t reach because of some stupid fence. Or else she lays ’round the house, acting like she can’t get up on all four feet, because she has “the old.” But put a cat down in front of her and you’ll realize it’s all a sham.

And Meadow? Hah! That’s a laugh. The computer might beep or make some other weird sound, which will send her skittering behind the sofa. And if the power-cord somehow shifts and touches her, she’ll freeze in place, standing there like a deer in the headlights, until someone comes along, removes it, and tells her everything’s “okay.”

Can’t let the cats do the work either. It is a dog blog after all. Besides that – they’d much rather lick themselves, or walk around waving their butts in the air. They really never do anything useful. I’m not even sure why my peoples let them live here.

So that leaves just me. Toby. The Lab. So stick around. Pull up a dog bed. Grab something to chew on. Because I’m going to be digging up all of my people’s dirt putting up some pawesome posts for all you pups out there. (And for you two-leggers too.)

First you need to write a manual on how to get your biped away from the computer. We think we have figured out a way to make our dewclaws hit the space bar. All we need is our shot at the computer without harming our food source in any way.

Misty the alpha Poodle and my minions

    • Toby says:

Hello Misty. I immediately like you, since you used the word “minions” :-)

Here’s my secret. I’m lucky. My peoples have TWO computers. A desktop and a laptop. Can’t be in two places at once… ;-)

Poor Toby, a dog’s work is just never done!

  3. Ok I have to differ with you about cats. My cat brother Cody is the brains behind the operation here. I hate to admit it, but it’s true. He appears to do nothing but all the while he is scheming…trust me.
My Mom is like your Mom. She has a book review to do this weekend, what is she doing? Reading blogs, then going out to lunch, she better write it tonight cause she has football tomorrow!
Barks and licks and love, Dakota

    • Toby says:

Wow – that Cody cat sure sounds scary. I better keep an eye on these two, and make sure they’re aren’t plotting anything. If they go near this keyboard, I better knock them away with my tail and pretend like it was an “Accident.”

    Hey Toby,

I’m glad to see a lab stepping up to the plate (like a lab wouldn’t) BOL. Delilah and I took over mom’s computer once, but it was a lot of work and we’d much rather lie around on the couch, but don’t worry, we will support you in your efforts.

We’ll keep checking back to see what you’re up to.

  5. Hey Toby,

Woohoo for you!! I can’t imagine you sitting around playing Solitaire instead of keeping us amused!! You’re awesome and clearly way more responsible than any animal or human in your house!!

There’s a job to do and you’re gonna get it done!! I’m so happy that you’re gonna be keeping us posted :)

My Mum can be like your Mum too, she says I get easily distracted? Huh? She can talk!! She’s best when she has a list (Yep, it’s massive) and tells herself if it’s not on the list she can’t do it – she grumbles, but she gets more done for sure!! :)

Have a fun weekend buddy, you really made me chuckle about how you said Leah’s just faking it cos she’d move fast if there was a Cat!! :)

    Your pal Snoopy :)

    • Toby says:

Thanks Snoops! Us dog bloggers gotta stick together. If we left everything up to our Peoples, nothing would ever get done. About those lists that you mention….they are so fun to shred, aren’t they?

  6. I knew something looked different around here!

    • Toby says:

Yes – and I’ve got big plans for this place. Like those “About the Dogs” pages. They are SO DUE for a re-write. If only I had more hours in a day….

Hola, Toby! Bienvenido a la blogoshphere! Agradable tenerte aqui! ~ Bella

See, this is why I don’t let Bella near the keyboard. ;)

Welcome to the blogosphere, Toby! It’s nice to have you here! ~ Bella’s mom :)

    • Toby says:

Bella – my neighbors are Spanish. I like them. They make tasty food.

Thanks for the welcome Bella’s mom! Hope you will like my blog better than my peoples. (Ah, heck, I KNOW you will. All SHE ever did was complain about vet visits.)

      • Leslie says:

I don’t know about better Toby – I do hope you’ll let her fill us in about those vet visits every now and then. Some of us can commiserate and did like keeping up with all the goings-on.

(PS – I bet your neighbors do make tasty food – I hope they share with your ‘rents sometimes. I wonder if I can teach Bella to cook? ;)

  8. Jen says:

    Oh dear, a blog hijack!

  9. Gracie says:

Hey Toby! Good work! I wish I could get my human away from the computer more. She making herself coffee so I jumped on. Like your human, mine likes to post embarrassing stuff! Well, soon we shall overtake them all and run these blogs the way they should be run. Posting our GOOD deeds and embarrassing stuff about our humans!

    • Toby says:

Careful you don’t end up going overboard and she leaves the computer to “re-home” you Gracie. But if you do, I hear there’s room over at Emmas….

  10. Basil says:

Glad to see that you are finally taking control! Peeps are just not as good as us dogs especailly when it comes to blogging! I hope you get extra treats as a thank you for all this hard work! Can’t wait to read them!!

  11. Can’t wait to hear more about Toby, and his human of course!

    • Toby says:

Thanks for stopping by to comment Kirby. I hope you’ll stay and look around a bit, and tell me if you’re enjoying my posts. Us dogs have to support each other you know. :-)

  12. Oskar says:

I can’t wait to see what you have to say.

    Nubbin wiggles,

  13. Angela says:

Thanks for stepping up to the plate, Toby! I wish my dogs would blog for me. They just lay around and eat treats!

  14. Bongo says:

Hey Toby, dogs write all the best blogs anyway, so it’s the best thing ever for you to take this one over.

  15. Hurray for Toby!!! Good for you for stepping up. We should really teach these 2 legged humans who is boss.
